    FEBRUARY 2017

    Message from Business Manager-
    Denis R. Beaudoin, Sr

January has been busy on the legislative front!
The legislative agenda this year is to compromise unions on several levels.
We have our eyes on two particular detrimental legislative bills this session: SB 11 which would prohibit collec-tive bargaining agreements that require employees to join or contribute to a labor union. Record numbers of union members across the state and across the board showed up to voice their disapproval at the senate hearing. SB 11 passed senate vote by a margin of 12 to 11. It passed by only one vote and one excused Senator. SB 11 is now heading into the House and being heard by the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services Commit-tee. IBEW 490 is strongly opposed to this bill getting passed in the House. Our mission has always been to strengthen our membership not deplete it.
The second detrimental legislative bill is HB225, the bill to repeal New Hampshire’s Renewable Portfolio Stand-ard. This bill would kill good local jobs in the electrical industry and hurt New Hampshire’ energy independence.
Look up your legislator at hhtp://www.gencourt.state.nh.us. Voice your concerns to your local representatives expressing disapproval on these bills!

ANNUITY NEWS: Please watch your mail for 3 amendments to our Annuity Plan.
    1. Summary of Material Modifications which will allow terminated/retired participants to either take a single lump-sum payment, a partial withdrawal or receive installments over a period of time.
    2. Notice which allows you to take a paperless distribution at a reduced fee of $50.00 for paperless, the fee will remain at $75.00 for non-paperless contributions.
    3. Fund change memo– The Trustees voted to replace the JP Morgan Mid Cap Value A with Vanguard Mid Cap Val Idx Adm. This change was decided upon because the JP Morgan Fund was underperforming. Detailed information will be mailed and/or emailed to participants shortly.

    Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I wanted to thank you all for your help and support you provided for our Job Fair. While the weather and current unemployment rate tried their best to derail us, we still managed to contact several qualified candidates for new membership in LU 490. I’m looking forward to the opportunities in organizing that we will have this year and can’t wait to grow Local 490!

Dessert and beverage will be provided as well at a small cost. Meal to be between $5.50-$6.00 a plate. Each month we hope to feature a new entrée or meal package. Please sub-mit your suggestions to donnamrobie@gmail.com.
